An indoor badminton court was inaugurated at Vavuniya District General Hospital on 4th March 2017 by Mr.S.C.Chandrahasan, Founder of OfERR. OfERR (Ceylon) provided the funding support for the badminton court, to encourage the physical well-being of the doctors and nurses, who serve for the health needs of the people in the hospital.
Mr.K.Akilendran, Director of Vavuniya District General Hospital, presided the inauguration event along with other dignitaries namely Mr.T.Thireshkumar – Additional District Secretary of Vavuniya, Ms.S.Sooriykumary – President of OfERR (Ceylon), Mr.K.Uthayarasa – Divisional Secretary of Vavuniya Division and Mr.Surenthiran – Doctor of Out Patient Division. OfERR (Ceylon) staff and other hospital staff have also participated in this inauguration ceremony.
Mr.S.C.Chandrahasan, in his key note address, appreciated the standout service of the Vavuniya District Hospital in the war period. According to him, “Vavuniya Hospital provided the best support to the war-wounded civilians and victims in several ways. The commitment shown by the doctors and nurses has been excellent and from that, it is evident that they understood the core humanitarian value behind offering medical service for the needy people”.
His address also recognized the importance of Spirulina and its role to combat malnutrition and dreadful and chronic diseases such as Cancer, HIV/AIDs, Arthritis, etc. In addition, Mr.K.Akilendran and Ms.Sooriyakumary also delivered their speeches expressing the importance of the sports’ court in the hospital. Eventually, with the inauguration of badminton game in the court by OfERR (Ceylon) President, the event has come to an end.
