Jaffna District Secretariat has commemorated the International Children’s day at Jaffna Veerasinghi Conference Hall on 1st of October 2017. The event that was co-organized with support of OfERR (Ceylon) and other NGOs, witnessed 500 children and their parents from all 15 Divisional Secretariats. Many dignitaries including GA of Jaffna, AGA of Kopay Teacher Training Institute, district and divisional level CRPOs, Child Probation Officers, Development Officers, Grama Sevakas and Samurthi Officers participated in this event.
OfERR (Ceylon) has inducted 10 children including 8 refugee returnee children in this event. Many children engaged in performing cultural programs such as poetry, speech & dance, etc. The Tamil Traditional event “Villisaippaattu” has been performed by children with the theme message of building positive environment for the children. The event was celebrated with an energizing debate between Jaffna Hindu College and Vembadi Girls College on “Our society has created conducive environment for children’s growth and development”.
The AGA of Kopya Teacher Training Institute, at his key note address, specified, “International Children’s Day tries to serve the objective of making the adults understand the fact that medals and success are not as important as the happiness of a child. With the celebration of International Children’s Day 2017, parents, teachers and the entire society are being sensitized to focus on intellectual development of children.”
