OfERR (Ceylon) organized the career guidance and counseling program on 20th February 2018 at YMCA, Jaffna. There were 32 boys and 28 girls participated in this session, including 22 refugee returnees. All of them are graduates, diploma holders and certificate holders. This training program was organized with the resource support of HRD Unit in Jaffna District Secretariat. The HRD team of Jaffna District Secretariat has introduced a career key exercise for the participants to narrow down their career based on their qualifications, interests and skills.
The Australian delegation headed by Mr.Hussain Soweid visited the program and interacted with the participants. OfERR Founder Mr.S.C.Chandrahasan, in his key note address, reminded the history of Sri Lankan refugees’ journey from nothing to resource persons in Tamil Nadu. He advised the participants to utilize the opportunities in the job fair and built their career. OfERR (Ceylon) President Ms.Sooriyakumary also echoed that graduates to aim for gradual development in their career by making use of the opportunities that they come across.
As part of this career guidance and counseling program, OfERR (Ceylon) has organized a mini-employment fair inviting seven employers from the private sector. Of them, four companies and individuals namely Ceymplan, Allianz, Corporative Services and Mr.Yogeswaran (Engineer) visited the programme and interviewed participants for potential employment.
One graduate in his feedback, “I was less confident about capitalizing my Indian graduation as I felt that it was less worth comparing to the Indian education. Thank you for this opportunity, today’s session has changed my opinion and increased my confidence”.
